Save the Oceans

On September 6, 2008, the First Phase of Punta Fuego Marine Sanctuary was inaugurated .

Before that, a Bantay Dagat training course was conducted on February 2008 which was attended by about 60 people from nearby barangays, including Punta Fuego employees and representatives from Nasugbu PNP. These people were deputized and were able to apprehend illegal fisherman.

And on April 11, 2008, an ordiance that will establish the area between Punta Fuego Point and Bird Island as the initial Marine Sanctuary has been passed and approved.

Signs, cables, mooring bouyes, and monitoring blocks were erected around the Sanctuary. Everybody is hoping to get good news for the establishment of this Sanctuary that will help to get strong support for additional sactuaries in the future.

OUTSTANDING INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS HELPING AND LEADING OUR EFFORTS

We have been very fortunate to have strong support from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Conservation International (CI) in all our efforts. Both organizations have significant amount of experiences in the activitied we are involved with and both have personnels living within the Nasugbu Area, thus we are getting excellent guidance and strong support and we are confident that we are doing things correctly and in a sustainable environmental way.
